What is Micro TESE/TESA?

Many couples struggle to conceive naturally, with fertility issues affecting about 50% of these cases due to male infertility factors. Azoospermia, the absence of sperm in the ejaculate or the presence of structurally defective sperm, is a common issue. Prompt treatment is essential, as age can add further complications. Micro TESE (Microdissection Testicular Sperm Extraction) and TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration) are advanced techniques that can significantly increase the chances of successful IVF treatment.

Micro TESE and TESA are minimally invasive surgical procedures used to extract viable sperm directly from the testicles. These methods are highly effective for men with azoospermia or severe sperm defects.

TESA:
Involves inserting a needle into the testicular tissue to aspirate sperm.
Performed under local anesthesia.

Micro TESE:
Involves using a microscope to identify and extract sperm from tiny tubules in the testicular tissue.
More comprehensive than TESA and used when TESA is unsuccessful.
Minimizes damage to blood vessels and surrounding tissue.

Who Can Benefit?
Men with azoospermia due to infection or drug use.
Men with blocked or malformed sperm ducts (CBAVD).
Men with genetic or hormonal causes of low sperm count.
Men who have undergone radiation therapy for cancer.

Benefits
High Success Rate: These methods can resolve about 70% of sperm production issues.
Minimally Invasive: The procedures are relatively quick, painless, and have minimal recovery time.
Future Fertility: Sperm extracted during the procedure can be frozen and stored for future use, ensuring availability for subsequent IVF cycles.

Steps of the medical procedure
Preparation: Both procedures are performed under anesthesia to ensure comfort.
Sperm Extraction:
TESA: A needle is used to extract sperm directly from the testicle.
Micro TESE: A microscope is used to identify and extract sperm from specific areas in the testicular tissue.
Post-Procedure Care:
No need for prolonged rest or hospitalization.
Restrictions include avoiding sexual intercourse for 10-15 days, no bathing or showering for 5 days, and avoiding heavy lifting and strenuous activities for at least a week.
Monitor for any signs of infection or complications and report to the doctor immediately.

Aftercare Instructions
No Sexual Intercourse: Avoid for 10-15 days post-procedure.
No Bathing or Showering: Refrain for at least 5 days.
